  • approved care organisation

Older children getting payments under their own name may also get a letter.

To be eligible, you must be:

  • getting certain government benefits such as Family Tax Benefit Part A for at least part of the calendar year
  • eligible for Medicare
Benefits Available
  • Eligible children can receive up to $1,158 worth of basic dental services over two consecutive calendar years.
  • The two-year cap period starts when a child or teenager first receives an eligible dental service.
  • The cap amount is indexed each 1 January. The higher amount applies only where the child received their first eligible service in that calendar year; a child who commenced an earlier two-year period continues on the cap that applied when their period began.
  • Where the full benefit is not used in the first year, the remaining balance may be used in the second year, provided the child remains eligible. Any benefit not used by the end of the second year cannot be carried over.

Benefits cover a range of services including:

  • examinations
  • X-rays
  • cleaning
  • fissure sealing
  • fillings
  • root canals
  • extractions

Benefits aren’t available for orthodontic or cosmetic dental work and can’t be paid for any services provided in a hospital.
