Everything you need to know about Veneers

For people who want to completely change the look of their teeth in an affordable way, without the need of invasive tools, Veneers can solve your dilemma.

Dental Veneers are done by bonding semi-translucent thin shells onto the front part of the teeth. Best known for its cosmetic purpose, they can alter the size, shape, length and colour of your teeth without affecting its healthy tissues. They are strong and provide the same strength and function as natural teeth. They do not require special care, but good oral hygiene habits are still recommended.

Why choose Dental Veneers?

They are custom-made for each patient to look natural. Dentists permanently fix them in place, and they can last up to 15 years. Veneers can address a wide range of dental concerns:

  • Discoloured or stained teeth
  • Malformed teeth (Chipped, broken or worn-down teeth)
  • Teeth gaps or spaces
  • Misaligned, uneven or strangely-shaped teeth

What type do you need to get?

Dental Veneers are available in two materials: Composite and Porcelain.

Composite Dental Veneers

Composite veneers use tooth-coloured resin material to form dental veneers. They cost less than porcelain but are not as strong. Composite veneers can chip, fade, and stain over time. Dentists use them for minor aesthetic changes, such as closing small gaps or adjusting tooth size and shape. Dentists can apply and sculpt composite veneers directly on your teeth in just one visit.

Porcelain Dental Veneers

With the same cosmetic purpose as Composite Veneers, Porcelain ones are stronger and more durable. Recreating the teeth’s natural look, it’s made to colour match and fit your current set of teeth. Porcelain veneers are also stain-resistant and our gum tissue tolerates it well.

Your dentist can help you decide which type of Veneers is best for you considering your goal and your oral problems and habits. They can recommend the most effective set of treatment for you to achieve that healthy and beautiful smile.

Procedure in getting Porcelain Veneers

At MS Dental, you need three appointments over a 2 to 4 week period to achieve the perfect set.

First Appointment:

Your first visit focuses on diagnosis and treatment planning. The dentist asks what you want to achieve and examines your teeth. You discuss your preferred treatment and other available options to find the best solution for you.

If you choose veneers, the dentist explains the procedure in detail. This is the best time to ask questions and raise any concerns.

The dentist then takes X-rays and impressions of your teeth and mouth.

Second Appointment:

Your second visit focuses on preparation. The dentist removes 0.5 millimetre of enamel from the tooth surface to prepare your teeth. The dentist takes a model of your teeth and sends it to the lab to create the permanent veneers. This process usually takes 1 to 2 weeks. While you wait, the dentist places temporary veneers to protect your teeth.

Third Appointment:

The last appointment focuses on bonding the veneers. The dentist first temporarily fits the permanent veneers to check if they fit well and match your teeth. If needed, the dentist adjusts the fit and colour. Once everything looks correct, the dentist permanently bonds the veneers to your teeth.

How long will Porcelain Veneers last

They do not require any special care. With good oral hygiene practices such as brushing and flossing, veneers can last between 7 to 15 years. After this period, replacement may be needed.
